Optical Tricks of the Parthenon (2008)
This PBS Nova presentation takes the viewer into the intriguing idea that Greece’s Parthenon was built to minimize the brain’s tendency toward optical illusions and stand as a rock among pebbles.
Secrets of the Parthenon is a Providence Pictures production for Nova and WGBH Boston in association with Studio International and ARTE France. Funding for Nova is provided by David H. Koch, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and public television viewers. Additional funding for Secrets of the Parthenon is provided by The Solow Art and Architecture Foundation.

The New Museum Presents: Younger Than Jesus
What do 50 artists from 25 counties aged 33 and under have in common? They are mostly Younger than Jesus. The quirky idea is one of the most dynamic of its kind with each artist having a distinct mission apart from any stylistic theme. The exhibition is currently running through June 14.

Mapping the Years with Bobby Neel Adams
Source: bobbyneeladams.com
North Carolina’s Bobby Neel Adam’s “agemaps” are a hairbrained hybrid of two photographs of one person’s young and aged likenesses meshed together to make art collage in the simplest terms in what he calls “photo-surgery.” Other collections include studies in family, couples and historic structures.
All rights to the photos are retained by Mr. Adams and related parties.

The Outskirts is usually a place for the absurd, the unusual and the rebellious. Yet this painting entitled quite specifically Rooster Zebra Contemplating Grilled Cheese Sandwich just may win First Prize for overall Outskirtishness! It is simply what its name describes: some kind of rooster-zebra hybrid who has wandered out of an unknown jungle to ready himself for intellectual gymnastics over a sandwich made from what appears to be toasted, white bread and melted, yellow-American grilled cheese as the culinary question mark hovers precariously in space and time as the viewer awaits the rooster zebra’s decision as to whether he will eat the sandwich or let it drift curiously toward Planet X.
About the Artist
Born in San Antonio Texas October 7th, 1964 and raised along the west shore of Lake Erie in Toledo, Ohio and LaSalle, Michigan, Matt Forderer’s Paintings and Collage show his enthusiasm for nature and the organic. Compositions are filled with surrealistic imagery and symbolism.
Since moving to San Diego in 1986, he has found endless inspiration in the coastal region and desert. A self taught painter he cites as his growing list of influences many of the original surrealists including.Dali, Ernst, Magritte, Tanguy, Matta and Miro. Other influences include Rosenquist, Motherwell, Raucshenberg, Chuck Close, Alex Grey.
“I consider it a great gift that I have the ability to create surrealistic imagery and worlds never seen. I also consider it my duty to continue to explore this insight and bring as much of it as possible into fruition through my paintings, collage and future creative outlets. I owe a great debt the to the original surrealists who have pointed the way.In my work I am not trying to convey a specific message, rather I am just trying to establish balance, to set the viewer at ease and encourage new thinking and contemplation.” - From Forderer’s website
