Howard Hallis’ Picture of Everything
Also featured at Waxing Poetically
Back in 1998, Los Angeles artist Howard Hallis started his project like most other artists innocently wanting to draw one of his favorite things: he wanted to draw Spiderman. But he thought to himself that Spiderman needed some company. So he drew more superheroes. Then he thought of how some superheroes are also cartoon characters, so he drew some cartoon characters. From there he thought of the Beatles’ being in a few cartoons. He finally began to draw rock stars, celebrities, friends, family and generally just people he knew; and with the addition of a little scenery, Howard’s Spiderman drawing turned into an inevitable Picture of Everything. The picture is slated to be finished sometime in 2010.
The following is a short piece created for the Canadian news show The Hour by Ben Alysworth.
