Yet this painting entitled quite specifically Rooster Zebra Contemplating Grilled Cheese Sandwich just may win First Prize for overall Outskirtishness! It is simply what its name describes: some kind of rooster-zebra hybrid who has wandered out of an unknown jungle to ready himself for intellectual gymnastics over a sandwich made from what appears to be toasted, white bread and melted, yellow-American grilled cheese as the culunary question mark hovers precariously in space and time as the viewer awaits the rooster zebra’s decision as to whether he will eat the sandwich or let it drift curiously toward Planet X.
About the Artist
Born in San Antonio Texas October 7th, 1964 and raised along the west shore of Lake Erie in Toledo, Ohio and LaSalle, Michigan, Matt Forderer’s Paintings and Collage show his enthusiasm for nature and the organic. Compositions are filled with surrealistic imagery and symbolism.
Since moving to San Diego in 1986, he has found endless inspiration in the coastal region and desert. A self taught painter he cites as his growing list of influences many of the original surrealists including.Dali, Ernst, Magritte, Tanguy, Matta and Miro. Other influences include Rosenquist, Motherwell, Raucshenberg, Chuck Close, Alex Grey.
“I consider it a great gift that I have the ability to create surrealistic imagery and worlds never seen. I also consider it my duty to continue to explore this insight and bring as much of it as possible into fruition through my paintings, collage and future creative outlets.
